Where do you live?
The benefit has a different name and a different department in each part of the UK. Choose yours and everything after this is written for you.
Whichever one you are, the test is the same. Do you need help or supervision through the day, during the night or both? Day or night pays the lower rate. Day and night pays the higher one, about £1,970 a year more. Most people under-describe their nights, because nobody sees them.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before you start.

People who have reached State Pension age and need help with personal care, or someone to supervise them for their own or someone else's safety, because of a physical disability, a mental disability or a health condition. Normally they must have needed that help for at least 6 months, but there are different rules for someone nearing the end of life. It is not means-tested, so earnings and savings do not affect it, and it is tax-free. In Scotland the same help is now Pension Age Disability Payment, and our answers cover that application too.
In 2026/27 it is £76.70 a week at the lower rate or £114.60 a week at the higher rate, about £3,988 or £5,959 a year. The lower rate is for frequent help or constant supervision during the day, or supervision at night. The higher rate is for help or supervision throughout both day and night, or where a medical professional has said the person is nearing the end of life. Pension Age Disability Payment in Scotland pays the same rates.
Yes. Every answer is written from what you tell us about the person's conditions and the help they need by day and by night, so two people with the same diagnosis get different answers. For each care question you get the boxes to tick, how often help is needed and a written answer in plain first-person English. List every condition, because the extra information section describes how they combine across a whole day and night.
Yes, the site is built for that as well. Answer our questions about the person who is claiming and the answers are written in their voice, ready for their form. Please make sure they agree to you entering their health information. They sign the form themselves unless you already have the legal authority to sign for them, for example as their appointee or under a power of attorney, and our guide to claiming for a parent explains how that works.
GOV.UK and the official form notes explain the rules and what each question asks, but they cannot describe your own days and nights for you. We turn what you tell us into a finished answer for every care question, using the terms the decision is based on, such as frequent attention, continual supervision and watching over at night. We are an independent service and are not affiliated with the DWP, the Department for Communities or Social Security Scotland. We do not send anything for you: you copy the answers onto your own form or the online claim and send it yourself.
Yes. We use it for one purpose only, to write the answers you asked for, and only after you tick the consent box. What you type is not kept on our servers once your answers have been built. It is shared only with the providers we need to write and deliver your answers, under contracts that require confidential handling, as set out in our privacy policy. We never sell it and we do not share it with the DWP.
After payment you answer our questions, which takes around five minutes, and the answers then take a few minutes to build. Please keep the page open while it works. When they are ready they appear on screen, a copy is emailed to you automatically and you can download them as a PDF.
No. This is not a platform with accounts or logins. For your privacy, what you type is not kept on our servers once the answers are built, so the email we send you (or the PDF you download) is your copy to keep. Your order link stays active for 36 hours after payment. If you lose the email, contact us and we can send it again.
Our paid answers are written for the claim form, not for challenging a decision, but our free guide to what to do after a refusal takes you through each step. In England and Wales the first step is to ask the DWP for a mandatory reconsideration, usually within one month of the date of the decision. In Northern Ireland you ask the Disability and Carers Service to reconsider the decision, and in Scotland you ask Social Security Scotland for a re-determination within 42 days of being told the decision. If that does not change the decision, you can then appeal to an independent tribunal.
No, and no service honestly can. The decision always rests with the decision maker, based on the form and any evidence. What we do is help you describe the help that is genuinely needed, clearly and completely, in the language the claim is judged against.
